Cage: Hell destroyer
30/05/07 || Euthanatos
Cage are an American heavy/power metal band, in case you haven’t heard of them, which is unlikely, because they’ve become quite popular in recent years.
The first time I heard of these fellas was upon the release of “Darker Than Black”. Reviews were good, and even though 90% of Power Metal bands are terrible, just plain awful, every now and then a good one comes along, and I really like the good ones, because aggressive heavy metal is a style that should always sound good.
And the album was actually good, I liked the vocals, overall songwriting was nice, but now they’ve come up with “Hell Destroyer” and the band have really excelled here. Now with a name like that, and tracks like “Christhammer”, “Fall of Angels”, I’m not quite sure if these guys have found good old Jesus or they’re just interested in the subject or are being sarcastic or what. But, since it’s not blatant preaching and at no moment can you see any “JESUS WILL SAVE YOU” raving, it’s all good. Plus, I don’t have the booklet, so fuck you, sort it out for yourself. Don’t blame me if your skin starts to yield smoke and melt off while listening to this.
The music presented here is the true definition of power metal, if there ever was one. It’s fast, it’s aggressive, it’s raw, but the production is awesome and the technique is flawless. And the vocals! If you’re into this type of metal, it just doesn’t get any better. Sean Peck (lol, PECK) is at the top of his game, with a wide variety of voices and singing styles. He screams, he growls, fascinating stuff.
The number of tracks here might scare you (21), but a shitload of them are intermezzos or spoken passages and the like. And they’re not boring, so that’s a plus. But writing all these names on the review was a real hoot. Really. There’s 2 hours of my life I’ll never get back.
No highlights here, I think you should just listen to it all from start to finish to get a better grasp of the concept and dive head on into the songs. It’s quality stuff. “Legion of Demons” fucking rules, though. It really does.
The cover: Now this is what I want to see. Fucking demons on the bottom firing (yes, with GUNS) at some badass looking angel in armour and everything. Grade A.
8.5 “Jesus Saves” stickers out of 10.
